Kairat Kelimbetov

Kairat Kelimbetov, born in Kazakhstan is the Governor of Astana International Financial Centre. For over two years, Kairat was Governor of the Kazakhstan’s Central Bank, the National Bank of Kazakhstan and Vice-Prime Minister of Kazakhstan from January 20 of 2012 till October 1 of 2013.

The Lomonosov Moscow State University graduate has been credited with accelerating Kazakhstan’s GDP growth while serving as Minister of Economy and Budget Planning for his country and evolving enterprises owned by the State.Since heading the Astana International Financial Centre, he has led the financial hub to become the 61st best global financial center.

In 1996, 3 years after graduating from school, Kairat became a Member of the Supreme Economic Council. In 1997, he got involved in the progress of the Kazakhstan-2030 strategy, a message of the President. A year later, he served as Head of Social and Economic Department of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. From 2006 to 2008, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of Kazyna Sustainable Development Fund, after serving as Minister of Economy and Budget Planning

It certainly is no mistake to say that Mr. Kairat’s success in the State-owned financial world stems from a vast level of experience.
