Oliver Jean Blanchard

Oliver Jean Blanchard is the current president elect of the American Economic Association and the Robert M. Solow Professor of Economics emeritus at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a French economist, researched and stated by IDEAS/RePEc to be one of the most cited economists in the world. Blanchard was in 2008, the chief economist at the International Monetary Fund.

Blanchard is also the author of several undergraduate and postgraduate textbooks based on macroeconomics and has also published a lot of papers in the field of macroeconomics.

Graduating from one of France’s top Grande École in business, he went on to complete his graduate level courses in economics and applied mathematics before moving on to acquire his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1977.

He is a past council member and current fellow of the Econometric Society and a current member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
