Peter Stefanov Stojanov

Peter Stefanov Stojanov is a Bulgarian Politician who served as the second President of the Republic of Bulgaria from 1997 to 2002, winning the 1996 elections as a candidate of the Union of Democratic Forces (UDF). Prior to that, Stoyanov was Deputy Minister of Justice in the first non-communist (UDF) government of Bulgaria.

Stojanov graduated with Law Honors from the Saint KlimentOhridski University of Sofia law faculty and practiced civil law in Plovdiv for fifteen years. As the holder of a doctorate in law, he was elected a member of the 37th National Assembly in Bulgaria and in 1995 he was elected Deputy Chairman of the UDF.

He currently serves as Board Member of the NizamiGanjavi International Center and Honorary co-chair of the World Justice Project. Since 2009, President Stoyanov has been President of the Center for Global Dialogue and Cooperation – CGDC, based in Vienna.

In Sofia, he founded the “PetarStoyanov Centre for Political Dialogue” and has been the winner of several awards like the Annual Award of the Association of the Russian Lawyers, the Anti-Defamation League’s Courage to Care Award amongst others.
